A Mighty Fortress Is Our God

about

I arranged this song as a way of breathing new life into something I love. My desire was to preserve the original melody and lyrics from this historic song and present it with a new arrangement. The hope is for this song to be seen with new eyes. To break us out of the monotony that comes with time and to unleash the power of these lyrics afresh.

My musical inspiration for this song came from spending time listening to electronic artists that I love and a desire to keep this song "small" in production. I wanted to be able to mold everything on my own, free from outside input or expectation. I played all keys, synth, drums, modular instruments and bass. My good friend, Jordan Lucas, plays guitar and sings background vocals on every track. I am incredibly grateful for his friendship and artistry. I could not have done this without his help. My desire was to make something that I love and I hope you love it too. Thanks for listening. - Adam

lyrics

A mighty fortress is our God,
a bulwark never failing;
our helper he, amid the flood
of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe
does seek to work us woe;
his craft and power are great,
and armed with cruel hate,
on earth is not his equal.

Did we in our own strength confide,
our striving would be losing,
were not the right Man on our side,
the Man of God's own choosing.
You ask who that may be?
Christ Jesus, it is he;
Lord Sabaoth his name,
from age to age the same;
and he must win the battle.

And though this world, with devils filled,
should threaten to undo us,
we will not fear, for God has willed
his truth to triumph through us.
The prince of darkness grim,
we tremble not for him;
his rage we can endure,
for lo! his doom is sure;
one little word shall fell him.

That Word above all earthly powers
no thanks to them abideth;
the Spirit and the gifts are ours
through him who with us sideth.
Let goods and kindred go,
this mortal life also;
the body they may kill:
God's truth abideth still;
his kingdom is forever!
